Boy and girl enjoy dancing at Graduation Ceremony in December

December is one of those months you kinda say to yourself “just go with the flow”. With it being the end of the year all of us are usually running around tying up loose ends at work, planning holiday trips, figuring out which of our family members are getting gifts this year, whats going to be in the pot for Christmas day lunch and “what are we doing for New Years?”. It can all seem a little harrowing and before we know it, it’s all over and back to work for another year. Here at Oliver’s House was no different this December. Only we planned and executed four amazing events on top of all that, with plenty of help from our awesome sponsors and volunteers!

Gogo’s Christmas Lunch

We treated 30 Gogo’s from the surrounding community to a sit down Christmas lunch at Oliver’s Village. They enjoyed a wholesome meal while being entertained by the 5 year old class of the ECD center, followed by Christmas cake kindly sponsored by Hollard Insurance. After the Gogo’s had had their fill and were ready to leave they each recieved two new blankets to keep the chills at bay and a food hamper to take home with them to their families. They were overjoyed, they smiled and shook hands in appreciation as they departed.

Graduation Ceremony

Happy graduate receives her certificate of completion in December

The Graduation ceremony started off a little late this year, but when we finally got started there was no end to the exciting entertainment! Parents and sponsors gathered together to witness what would be the epitome of the 5 year olds career at Oliver’s Village ECD Center. The sponsors spared no effort in lending a helping hand in making sure the event ran as smooth as possible, and it did. Amazing performances of dancing and singing lit up the parents and sponsors faces, in turn everyone getting behind and cheering on the little ones inspiring them to shine even more. The energy at the ceremony was unmeasurable!

After the sterling performances the little 5 year olds were given a certificate, school uniforms and grade 1 stationary starter packs that would give them the necessities needed to enter into their schooling career with pride and confidence. We wish every graduate the best of luck as they embark on their schooling career.

Christmas Party

What a wonderful December

The following day we held the Christmas Party, so everyone had to be on their toes. The event went off without a hitch as everyone came together to give the children a day to remember.

The children were treated to a magic show, face painting, KFC and a visit from Santa. The children’s eyes lit up the second they saw Santa, knowing that they would receive gifts soon after.

Christmas Lunch

Christmas lunch for the homeless in December

Christmas is a day we normally spend with family and friends. On December 25th we invited the homeless of Benoni to join the Oliver’s House family to a sit down Christmas lunch. The weather looked bleak as our volunteers helped to decorate and make ready for the event. We sent out a few drivers to go around and pick up some homeless people, but no sooner than we blinked the parking area was buzzing with energy. With staff and volunteers working together, the beneficiaries were waited on and served their meals. The event was really twofold, as the beneficiaries enjoyed a good wholesome meal and a sense of family, the volunteers feeling the joy of giving and serving the less fortunate. Everyone left with a lighter heart and a fuller stomach.

So you see, it really was a “December to Remember!”. Oliver’s House and it’s beneficiaries take this opportunity to thank each and every sponsor and volunteer for the effort, time and resources they put in, as without you none of this would have been possible.
